Who can join? Full membership is open to all chartered physiotherapists who have completed an approved course (see postqualifying programmes section). Also, to those recognised by the Association of Reflexologists, the Institute of Complementary Medicine and the International Therapy Council. Full members must also satisfy the ACPIRT committee that they have, over a two-year period, successfully completed a minimum of ten hours' CPD in reflex therapy and related therapies and that they use reflex therapy as part of their professional practice.

Associate membership is open to CSP members who do not meet the requirements of full membership. This category is also open to other health care professionals who have completed an approved course, as indicated above.

Honorary membership may be conferred on any individual who, at the discretion of the committee, has provided exceptional service to ACPIRT.

The 'friends' category is open to those interested in reflex therapy not eligible for membership in other categories. Unlike the other categories of membership, 'friends' are not eligible to vote at general meetings. However, they may receive the same information and have the same training opportunities as members.

What is expected of members? Members are encouraged to support ACPIRT through active involvement in regional groups and to submit articles for the newsletter.
How does the group support members' continuing professional development/lifelong learning? Regional network
Regional co-ordinators are appointed at the Annual General Meeting to serve the local interests of members. They are invited to attend executive meetings as ex-officio members.

Peer support/mentorship
Peer support is available through the regional network and support is also provided via committee members.

Publications
A newsletter is published approximately three times a year and a pack is available for new members. A register of members listing contact details and training routes is published annually.

Suggested reading list
A reading list is available from ACPIRT for members

Conferences and study days
There are many conference and study day opportunities for this speciality, in addition to training opportunities arranged by the regions. There have also been joint training opportunities between ACPIRT and other reflex therapy providers.

Formal courses offered/recommended
A clinical course in reflex therapy is validated by Coventry University.

Links with other groups/organisations
There are informal links with other complementary therapy groups. A joint programme was developed with the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists for the 1999 and 2000 CSP Congresses.

How does the group promote research and evaluation? Promoting research awareness
Research and evidence-based practice is promoted at study days and through the publication of the ACPIRT research officer's reports in the newsletter. The group has had involvement in various audit programmes. Case studies have been published in the newsletter.

Published evidence-based material
ACPIRT has published Standards and Guidance for Good Practice in Reflex Therapy, available from the CSP. Data collection forms to assist audit are provided in the new members' pack.

Outcome measures The group recommends its members use the CSP outcome measures database available on this website.
