Working overseas
Thinking of working abroad?
The CSP holds information about registration procedures and working practices of many countries - particularly English speaking nations such as the USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Members are strongly recommended to seek up to date information from these documents before entering into negotiations with potential employers or agencies.
Newly qualified?
The Society receives many inquiries from recently qualified members wishing to work abroad. In all cases the Society strongly advises its members to have at least two years good rotational experience before going overseas. Please note:
- many countries are now specifying this as a condition of acceptance
- the career development of junior staff can be a low priority in other health care systems
- undergraduate knowledge and experience is consolidated during rotation, and professional and clinical confidence established
- such experiences will mean you have more to offer an overseas employer. (Members will also have known UK clinical experience and this could be important in obtaining a UK job on your return.)
